Adams River Hike

Kamloops Trails Posted on 2025-11-03 by dsmith2025-11-07 1

In the last part of October I journeyed out to the North Shuswap Road and then parked at the Wade Road area in Tsutswewc Provincial Park.     This pull-off is on the north side of the road after crossing the bridge across Adams River.  Most hikers go upriver from this spot, but there is a trailhead sign for a trail that goes under the bridge, then continues downriver toward the main spawning area and continues down toward the southeast end of the park near Shuswap Lake.

The upper end of the trail has many burned trees from the forest fire of 2023.   Danger trees have been cleared, but there are still a number of deciduous trees (cottonwoods, aspens, birch) still living and showing fall colors.   There are few people on the trail until the main parking and viewing area.   There were many sockeye salmon still in shallows in the river in their final days of depositing eggs into redds.

I spent a bit of time in the viewing areas, then continued downstream through cedar forests.    The trails continue down to the gravel beaches and the lower parking lot.    Last year I hiked that loop, but I try to vary my routes each time.    I took a linking trail to the end of the groundwater channel, then onto the Phil Rexin Trail through the forest back to the main Roderick Haig Brown area.  I finished the hike by retracing my route going upriver to the Wade Road area, a 7.2 km hike.

Shared here are a number of photos from a Google Photos album, embedded in the post as a slideshow.    To see the album, captions, etc. click the link provided.

I hope to return to Wade Road to hike the river upstream next time.
