On a Saturday morning, we had the Paul Lake Park Group Site for a get-together, and we started off the day by hiking the trail up to the top of Gibraltar Rock and back, a moderate 6.7 km out-and-back route.   Many hikers, dog walkers, and runners also use this trail in Paul Lake Provincial Park.    It is a well-maintained trail with signage at the trailhead and at junctions.   It can be busy at summer prime times, but we met only a couple of other hikers along the way on this day.

We started at the Paul Lake Group Site where Paul Creek flows out of the lake into a marshy area.

Along the lakeside trail were continuing views of the lake and Gibraltar Rock to the east.

The final section is steeper, but we were rewarded at the top with outstanding views.    The east end of Paul Lake was 3.5 km in the distance.

Looking back to where we started, we had equally good views past the flowering saskatoons to the west end of lake (2.4 km as the crow flies).

The route was out-and-back and it is always a rewarding hike.    We will be back to hike the route again in the fall, perhaps with a loop route to the campground and the beach.    We have already paddled the west end of the lake so a return trip to the beach area to paddle the east end of the lake is already planned.
