The Ironmask Hills are the western part of the Pineview – Ironmask Trails, maintained by the biking community.     The western trails are subject to seasonal closures (usually signed).    Although hikers could start at the Pineview trailheads, the better access points for hiking are off Lac le Jeune Road at the bottom of Triple Lumen, or at the upper trailhead parking area shown on the left side of the map.    There are uphill and cross-country trails and downhill trails.    Anyone hiking a downhill trail needs to be alert and leave the trail if a bike is coming down (I go off trail for much of a downhill route, except where it is easy to see).

I started hiking the tracks in this area 50 years ago, mostly hiking or running on old double tracks once used by miners and ranchers.    There is now a network of single tracks, designed for mountain biking.  Some of the southwestern is grazing country so hikers and bikers should “steer clear” during that time of the year.
